THE DEBATABLE DISPATCH

Some reports in the world of Rock go beyond the need for the standard disclaimer, but are fun to throw out there nonetheless. For your amusement and possible amazement here are a few involving Humble Pie and Steve Marriott.

After his departure from the Rolling Stones, Brian Jones was set to join Humble Pie.  He was due to jam with the group on July 4, 1969. He drowned in the pool at his home on July 3.

When on tour with Roy Orbison in 1967 the Small Faces took advantage of the black-clad singer’s poor eyesight to sneak onstage and re-tune his guitar higher than normal. They then rolled about laughing as Roy's already high voice was pushed up a few gears.

Ian McLagen, Small Faces keyboard player, auditioned for Humble Pie.

Steve pinched Rod Stewart's fiancee Jenny Ryland (some say Rylands, others, Rylance). The widely accepted truth is “Mod” Rod and Steve  became firm friends over the years. Steve wrote some reportedly incredible material for Stewart, but the songs were never released, squelching the inevitable rumours. Among other Rockers in attendance at Steve’s funeral was Rod Stewart.

Before Clem Clempson rang, Humble Pie attempted to bring in James Gang guitarist/vocalist Joe Walsh.
